Independent Boarding Schools

Families work with the High School Placement Director to finalize their list of best-fit high schools to which they will apply. For families wishing to apply for admission to Independent Boarding High Schools, there are numerous options throughout the country.

  • Exams

    Many independent schools have moved away from requiring entrance exams. However, some have made them optional, while others still require exams. The Upper-Level ISEE is the test for admission to ninth grade. A student may take the ISEE once every season. The SSAT is another test for admission to ninth grade. A student may take the SSAT once a month. Families should decide on one test to take.

  • Requesting Recommendations

    ALL recommendation requests should be sent to the High School Placement Director. Please do not send them directly to the teachers. The High School Placement Director will coordinate with teachers to ensure the completion of all recommendations by the deadline.
