Gus Trowbridge, who founded MCS at age 31, celebrated his 75th birthday in August. Forty-four years after the doors first opened at 7 East 96 Street, the new school year has begun in earnest. NYSAIS has renewed our accreditation. Classrooms have quickly become beehives of productive activity, challenging the broad diversity of MCS students. An exceptional outpouring of creativity and energy speaks, I believe, for the education model developed here. |

The Summer Grants and Fellowships program for MCS and Farm Staff is mostly supported by the annual Staff Development budget. Grants and fellowships are to encourage personal and professional growth through projects of applicants’ own design. During the summer of 2009, teachers traveled to places near and far — from East Harlem to Andalusia, Spain — to support curriculum development. |

Solar Panels and Solar Ovens! |
|
On September 25th at 10:48 a.m. the 7th and 8th graders together turned on solar power at the Farm. They lined up at the switch holding hands. James began the "spark" by squeezing the hand of the student next to him, and so on down the line until the "spark" reached Brittney, who pulled the switch. |
