Photo of the Week

Eighth-graders work on a poster calling for fossil fuel divestment for an upcoming climate march. This activity is part of this year's seventh- and eighth-grade activism project, "Divest from Corporate Greed, Invest in the Future We Need."

Upper School Assembly
Caring for the environment and living sustainably are inherent in life and learning at Manhattan Country School. However, in the days leading up to Earth Day (April 22), several classes engaged in additional activities in recognition of the annual observance. Read more

We are excited to share with you the new and improved digital version of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative March newsletter. With this year’s issue you can watch each student’s speech by clicking the play button that appears next to the student's name. Read more
You won't want to miss the musical entertainment at Big Night Out! this year. Mezzo-soprano Alicia Hall Moran (parent to two MCS 8-9s students) and cellist and MCS alumna Marika Hughes '85 will be performing a special arrangement of Nina Simone's "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free." Grandparents' and Special Visitors' Day
Traveling from near and far, more than 150 visitors came to Manhattan Country School on Friday, April 7, for Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day. Guests were greeted by MCS staff and parents volunteers before making their way to the gym for a delicious selection of scones and other breakfast treats prepared by the MCS Kitchen. While in the gym, visitors had the opportunity to view several displays of student work and a photo slideshow highlighting MCS curriculum. Read more

Manhattan Country School is known for its innovative, progressive curriculum and leadership in diversity and social justice. This year, many MCS teachers and staff members have given presentations or led workshops based on the work they are doing at variety of conferences. Read more
6-7s Lunch
As the MCS Kitchen (La Cocina) looked forward to celebrating the 47th Annual Earth Day, we took a moment to consider the ways in which our food program supports Manhattan Country School’s sustainability mission, which took root around the same time that Gaylord Nelson, then a U.S. senator from Wisconsin, conceived of a day in celebration of the Earth. Maple Syrup
I want to share some early spring news from the MCS Farm. The Farm produced 23 gallons of maple syrup this season! It was a fickle winter with warm thaws and bitter colds that made the already challenging production of maple syrup a bit more challenging. Read more
Lower School tertulia
Tertulia 5 de mayo, 9:15 a.m. Dating back to 17th century Spain, a tertulia is a gathering of people united by a common interest. These intellectual and cultural gatherings were initially held in private homes, later in cafés and now at Manhattan Country School. Read more

PA Co-President Election Results

The votes are in. Congratulations to Stacy Parker Le Melle. She will join Leslie Cain as PA co-president for the 2017-2108 school year.
