Photo of the Week

Children in the 4-5s make dumplings on Thursday as part of the class family study. Each week, children make a favorite recipe of one of their classmates under the guidance of a grownup from that child's family.

On Monday, students in the 8-9s and seventh and eighth grades had the opportunity to learn about the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) protest at the Standing Rock Indian Reservation from someone who has been there. Ina McNeil, an accomplished American Indian quilt maker and the great, great granddaughter of Chief Sitting Bull, was raised on the reservation and recently spent some time with the protesters. Moving hay at the MCS Farm
Moving bales of hay from the hay mow to the winter steer pen at the Manhattan Country School Farm can be an arduous, but fun task for students. This week, as part of farming class, MCS sixth-grade students worked together to move wagon-loads of 15 to 20 hay bales. Each bale weighs approximately 35 pounds; the beef cattle will consume 6 to 8 bales per day. This student-led task is necessary several times per week. Read more
2016 Community Basketball Game
Join us Friday, February 17 for Manhattan Country School’s Community Basketball Game. This annual event features a competitive, yet friendly basketball game for MCS students, parents, faculty and staff, and alumni. In addition, young basketball enthusiasts have the chance to test their skills with basketball dribbling and shooting challenges. Read more
Gender Sign
Please join Manhattan Country School parents on February 2 for a parent-led forum titled "Childhood Gender Exploration and Community Support of Gender-Expansive Peoples." As our kids explore their own identities and those of their peers and struggle to understand the expectations of society, it is important that we as their parents and caretakers are conscious, purposeful and thoughtful about how we discuss gender with them. NYICFF
It's time! The 2017 New York International Children's Film Festival (NYICFF) is just around the corner (February 24 - March 19) and will be showcasing the best new films for ages 3-18. The festival features fantastic films for your family and Manhattan Country School earns $3 for every ticket you purchase. Read more
Call Center Graphic
On Monday, January 30 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., parent volunteers will be calling fellow parents who have not yet made a gift or pledge to The MCS Fund. The purpose of the phone-a-thon is to ask you to consider making a tax-deductible gift to Manhattan Country School by the end of our fiscal year (June 30, 2017) and to reiterate our goal of 100-percent parent participation. Current student MetroCards are set to expire on Tuesday, January 31. New MetroCards will be issued that day. Please be aware that replacements are not available, therefore students must be diligent about keeping up with their Metrocard once received. Read more
