Admissions Process

Application ProcessThe admissions team at Manhattan Country School will work with every family to guide them through each step of the admissions process. Please review the application requirements and procedures below.

Age Requirements

  • Children must be four by September 1, 2017 to be considered for the 4-5s classroom for the 2017-2018 school year.
  • Children must be five by September 1, 2017 to be considered for the 5-6s classroom for the 2017-2018 school year.

Applications will be available on our website after Labor Day. The application deadline for 4-, 5- and 6-year-olds was December 1, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. Applications for the youngest applicants are now closed. Applications for 7-8s through seventh grade are accepted on a rolling basis. There is a non-refundable $70 application fee. Families were encouraged to apply early during the fall.

Step 2: Submit an Application

Applications are now closed for 4-, 5-, and 6- year olds.  If you have an older applicant, please call the admissions office at 212-348-0952 ext. 224 to inquire about the process.  Applicants for older classes are processed on a rolling bases and depend on attrition. 

 
Step 3: Attend a Playgroup Session or Interview

4-, 5- and 6-Year-Olds

We encourage you to submit your application as early as possible to ensure a playgroup session for your child. Playgroups will be scheduled throughout the fall and for our youngest applicants into early January. Adults will meet together informally with a member of the administration while their children are engaged in a small playgroup with members of the admissions committee.

7-8s (Second Grade) Through Seventh Grade

Applications for 7-8s through seventh grade are accepted on a rolling basis and interviews for available spaces are determined by attrition in these classes. Please call Mónica Amaro, director of admissions, at (212) 348-0952 x224 if you have specific questions regarding your child’s class placement or the application process.

Step 4: Request a School Report

If your child is in a school setting (nursery, preschool, daycare, co-op, etc.) please speak to your child’s current school director about submitting a confidential school report.

This form is due no later than January 9, 2017.

Step 5: Complete the Family Financial Worksheet

To determine a child’s tuition, families submit a confidential Family Financial Worksheet (FFW) to MCS’ director each year. A child’s contracted fee is determined on our sliding scale. The FFW will allow you to know what your contracted fee is to enroll your child at MCS. Twenty-five percent of the contracted fee is due shortly after acceptance. Families can choose between a two-payment installment plan or 12-month payment plan. This form is due no later than January 9, 2017.

Step 6: Take the Educational Records Bureau Test (For students applying for second grade and above.)

Students applying to the 7-8s (second grade), 8-9s (third grade) or 9-10s (fourth grade) are required to take the Early Childhood Admissions Assessment (ECAA). The Independent Schools Entrance Exam (ISEE) is for students applying to the fifth through seventh grades. Visit the Testing Requirements page for additional information.
